Today I’m chatting with Willina Rodriguez, the gorgeous face of the Black owned hair brand “Curls Poppin”.
Curls Poppin: Black Owned Hair Brand
“Curls Poppin” is a curly hair product brand that provides you with the most important information & tools needed to compliment their curly hair products and maintain healthy beautiful curls.
So let’s jump in!
Willina Rodriguez Interview
Sophia Lenore: Hello Willina, how are you?
Willina Rodriguez: I’m doing great! How are you?
Sophia Lenore: Our photo editorial team had the pleasure of shooting you for our September Beauty Story. You are such a natural, how long have you been modeling?
Willina Rodriguez: I have been modeling for 5 years.
What Inspired You?
Sophia Lenore: What inspired you to begin a career in modeling, and why?
Willina Rodriguez: The pleasure was mine! I had so much fun!
Well since I was a toddler I dreamt of being like the fabulous women in the magazines and catalogs… I also used to wear my mom’s heels and purses to walk around the house at the age of 3! Can you imagine that? I was born for this!
And even though I was not able to start pursuing this dream until I was 20, I have made the most of it ever since. I’ve had many ups and downs where I needed to look back and remember what I really wanted.
This has inspired me to keep going because I see myself very big internationally.
Life & Career Aspirations
Sophia Lenore: What are your aspirations in life & in your career?
Willina Rodriguez: In life and my career, I want to be a big inspiration to people. Show them that when you really want something, you can have it.
And if you fail in the process, get back up and try again until you make it.
You only have to get it right once! I also want to be a voice for promoting self love and acceptance as well as a healthier lifestyle!
Brands You Work With
Sophia Lenore: Besides being an ambassador for several hair & beauty companies, what other projects or collaborations are you currently working on?
Willina Rodriguez: Besides Curls Poppin’, I am partnered with Bia Goddess, a fitness clothing line, which I am the face of.
I am also partnered with Sobe Shades, 310 Nutrition, Healthy Via Modern Nutrition (HVMN), Jelore Naturals, Kandy Beauty and Mixwear Shop.
A current project that I am working on with a friend is rescuing orphaned kittens in need of human help and finding them homes.
I happen to have a very soft spot for animals and I have a big helping spirit too.
So something I am constantly working on is sharing tips and tricks that I learn, giving health advice and sharing the results of what has worked for me for hair loss, curly hair transitioning, skin care and more!
Who Inspires You?
Sophia Lenore: Who are your idols? Who inspired you in the past & who inspires you now, and why?
Willina Rodriguez: My forever Idols are Cara Delevingne, Tyra Banks, Candice Swanepoel and Kendal Jenner.
All these women have inspired me in the past and currently because they have the style that I always liked in this industry which is a high fashion look.
I mean anytime I need a little push, I just have to check one of their pages and I am instantly reminded of where I am headed…
What Do You Love About Curls Poppin?
Sophia Lenore: What do you love the most about the brands you represent? For example, Curls Poppin’ and why?
Willina Rodriguez: To be honest I love everything about Curls Poppin’! From the ingredients to the smell to the way it defines my curls while leaving them bouncy and without any buildups.
My hair just loves these products! The only thing I don’t like is that they don’t have more products just yet hahahaha!
Sophia Lenore: What are some of your best memories and experiences in your career and why?
Willina Rodriguez: My best Memories and experiences in my career include the recent pageant I was in “Ms. International World” because the team was very transparent & genuine with us.
Also every girl got along…no drama or anything like that, we were all just friends and helping each other out. This pageant happened on a cruise and that was my first time on a cruise!
Another one is my first pageant ever, which was in 2016, this was the beginning of my actual modeling career. I look back at that moment and I am so proud of how far I’ve come!
I met my model coach there and met great people that opened doors for me to throw myself out there.
My best experiences shooting have been most of the editorial shoots and fashion shows I’ve done because here I really feel like I can just flow and be myself.
I was mostly trained to be a high fashion model so this is where I feel the most comfortable and have had the best experiences.
Love For Your Career
Sophia Lenore: What part of your career do you love the most and why?
Willina Rodriguez: The part I love the most about my career is being able to change my looks and styles for every photoshoot and video shoot.
For example, one day I get to be a bride, then a rock star, house wife, a lawyer and more. It is very exciting to switch characters and be able to incorporate my personality into it.
It just comes naturally. One thing I very much love is how modeling has helped me rebuild my self esteem.
I also love getting professional feedback and compliments from the people I work with!
Oh and I can’t forget all the free goodies!
Sophia Lenore: What’s next for you? Will you venture into TV, theater, film, etc.?
Willina Rodriguez: What’s next for me, well I am aiming to be the face of High End brands such as Versace, Balenciaga, Estee Lauder, Laura Mercier etc.
I’m also going for multiple billboards and Magazine covers world wide! I am definitely planning on going for Film and television.
After all I am meant for Hollywood so I am not going to say no to that! Hahahaha
Sophia Lenore: Willina, thank you so much for chatting with me today about your modeling career, experiences and aspirations.
You are such a lovely & inspiring woman of color.
Willina Rodriguez: Thank You for giving me the opportunity for an interview! I am very excited to see where this journey will take me! Thank you so much, *Hugss*!
